How do I get my replacement trees?
This is an event-based program. Recipients of replacement trees MUST pick up their tree(s) at the designated location, date, and time. Pre-register, then bring your evidence (a before and after picture) to the event and drive away with your new tree(s)!
Is the ‘Bradford’ pear cultivar the only eligible tree for replacement and what size do they need to be?
While replacing landscape trees is the goal of this program, all cultivars and the offspring escapees of Pyrus calleryana are eligible. Planted/landscape trees qualify if larger than 1” caliper and escapee Callery pear qualifies if at least 3” caliper (caliper is the diameter of the trunk 6” from the ground).
Can I replace Callery pear I see on property other than my own?
No, the removed tree(s) MUST be located on property owned by the individual or organization registering for the replacement tree(s).
How should I remove my tree and who pays for it?
The property owner is responsible for tree removal. They may choose to remove it themselves or hire a professional (find a Certified Arborist here). Stumps should be treated with an herbicide to prevent resprouting.
In addition, Carolina Tree Care is offering 15% off Bradford Tree Removals! Just mention you are registering for the NC Bradford Pear Bounty Program. Don’t forget to take your before and after pics!
Is this program only for private homeowners?
No, this program is open to private land and homeowners as well as businesses and other entities.
How large will replacement trees be?
They will come in 3 or 5 gallon containers and be approximately 1” caliper. Height of the trees when grown vary based on the species selected. Previous replacements have ranged from 4 to 10 feet tall.
What if I don’t know the best type of replacement tree?
Experts at the event can help you select the best replacement tree for your site.
Can I reserve my replacement tree species ahead of time?
No, trees are given out on a first come, first served basis.
The program is full, but I want to participate. What can I do?
We are happily overwhelmed with the positive response this program is receiving! Unfortunately, funding and logistics limit what we can do at a single event. But, don’t worry—we are planning future events that will move around the state!
